ASTM D 1401 Method: Evaluation of water separation in oils and fluids

This test method measures the ability of petroleum oils or other synthetic fluids to separate from water. Although developed specifically for steam turbine oils with viscosities between 28.8mm2/S to 90mm2/S and 40°C, this method can be used to test oils/fluids of other types with different viscosities and/or temperatures.
